Pets
This article on pets popped up in my browser this morning and after reading it, I have come to the conclusion that the author has never had a pet of their own, or are more concerned with earning a paycheck than being honest. If not, they would not find it impossible for animals to communicate their acceptance of living with humans. I have both dogs and cats, so I can speak a bit on their behavior.
Starting with the cats. The cats living with me are indoor/outdoor and are not kept here. If they wanted to, they could walk out the door and keep walking and there is not a thing we could do to stop it. And yet they don’t. To me, that counts as acceptance.
The dogs are not the same way, because while they can freely go in and out of the house, they are restricted to the backyard, but not because I wouldn’t be fine with them running about, it is the neighbors that have issues with it. Nobody seems to care about a cat wandering about, but a dog… Hence the dogs are restricted by a fence. When they do get out, either thru our carelessness or they manage to find a way thru or around the fence, they wander around the neighborhood, but when they are done, will come home and start barking at the front door to be let back in. Again, that feels like acceptance to me.
